Mike began racing in the modified street division in the late 1970's, winning his first race at the always tough Brownstown Speedway, later moving into the dirt late model ranks. Since his start, Mike has competed in numerous events over the years throughout the midwest, earning the respect of fellow competitors, track promoters and race  fans. Mike's outgoing personality and genuinely friendly attitude has gained him the respect and admiration of many people associated with the racing industry. Once referred to by an announcer at the famed Eldora Speedway as "One of the finest ambassadors in dirt late model racing", Mike has amassed over 160 career victories. Some of his notable wins include; the Hoosier Dirt Classic, the Kenny Simpson Memorial, two-time Lee Fleetwood Memorial winner, plus a track championship and former track record holder at Brownstown Speedway--The Fall 50 and the prestigious Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway-- Track record (which has stood since 1993), plus 8-time Butterball Woolridge Memorial winner at Richmond Raceway--Two time "Kentuckiana Clash"  and "June Jam" winner at Bluegrass Speedway, along with several starts in the World 100, Show Me 100, and the Dirt Track World Championship. In 2006, Mike was chosen as the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame "Sportsman of the Year" by his peers and will receive that honor in the 2007 induction ceremonies at the North -South 100 at Florence Speedway joining a list of dirt racing's elite. In recent years Mike has competed in the O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass Dirt Car Series and is second on the the all-time series wins list with 10 victories plus the 2005 and 2006 points titles, becoming the only two time series champion. A slick track master, Mike is known for his driving ability and smooth style in the "Black Ice". Jewell started a fan following years ago when he started giving feature trophies to lucky youngsters and fans in the stands, still practicing  that same trademark gesture to this day. Mike appreciates the support of fans that have followed him throughout his racing career....
